COC emerges UB Days 2016 Overall Champion

The College of Criminology (COC) claims victory as UB Days 2016 overall champion. With 31 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals, COC maintains their record as overall champion for six consecutive years of UB Days.

Garnering the second place with 27 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals, the Victoriano D. Tirol – Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC) excels in sports as well as in academics and literary contests.

The third place went to the University High School (UHS) with 21 gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 29 bronze medals.

TC dethrones CAFA in Battle of the Bands

This year’s UB Days 2016 Battle of the Bands is a turn of events after TC (Teacher’s College) claimed victory over the long-reigning champions from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA). “Na-shock jud ko kay although TC ko ga-expect ko nga CAFA lang gihapon ang mudaog sa Battle of the Bands ron as always.” a TC student reacted.

On the other hand, the crowd was ignited when the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) played an original composition song “Stalk-stalk pa more” that left many UBians amused.

The College of Hospitality Management Tourism and Nutrition (CHMTN) brings home the second place with their outstanding performance while CAFA takes the third place.

Congress approves bill postponing SK, barangay polls

The Senate and the House of Representatives approved the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay polls to 2017 from the original schedule of October 31 this year.

The supposedly new and reformed SK was formed after the previous SK developed a poor reputation particularly on April 2010 when Jomarie Cajes, then SK National Federation President, was charged before the Office of the Ombudsman in Cebu City for lack of transparency and for flaunting her wealth. The SK reform consisted of changing the age eligibility to file for candidacy from 15-18 years old to 18-24 years and the voting eligibility from 15-18 years old to 15-30 years old. Anti-political dynasty was also part of the reform ruling that relatives of up to second degree of consanguinity and affinity of incumbent elected officials from barangay to national government are not allowed to run for SK.

The National Youth Commission (NYC) announced before that the SK polls will be conducted together with the barangay elections this coming October 31, 2016. COMELEC also gave a limited span of days for the registration of new SK voters at the local COMELEC offices throughout Philippines. However, those who have already voted in the last National and Local Elections are automatically registered to vote for both SK and barangay polls. According to a local COMELEC secretary, the filing for candidacy was supposed to be on October 3, 4, and 5, 2016 while the election proceeds at October 31 the same year.

“Paasa kaayo kay nag-effort pa mig pa-rehistro, limited pajud ang time unya dili diay to madayun, postpone napud!” a UBian SK voter told The Varsitarian. After the agreed postponement, the COMELEC is to restart the registration period for barangay and SK elections from October 3, 2016 to April 29, 2017.

Sevilla and Esclamado crowned as Mr. and Ms. UB Personality 2016

As beauty, talent and wits clashed on the University of Bohol grounds on the night of September 15th, two of the most promising young individuals of our time sailed over the top, outshining other pairs, from the different departments. Edsel Jim G. Sevilla of the University High School and Adelyn Joy S. Esclamado of the College of Business and Accountancy  journeyed all the way to becoming this year’s Mr. and Ms. UB Personality.

Sevilla, with all the cheers seized the following awards namely: Best in talent, Mr. Body Beautiful, Best in Evening Gown and Formal Wear, and lastly Studio Uno Fans Choice award.

Meanwhile, Esclamado seized a handful of minor and major awards namely: Ms. Jewelyne Fashion, Ms. Complete sensation, Studio Uno Fans Choice award, Best in Casual Wear, Ms. Body Beautiful, Best in Evening Gown and Formal Wear, 3rd Runner-up in Best in Interview, and lastly 2^nd Runner-up in Best in Talent.

Furthermore, the 1^st Runner-up titles for both male and female candidate were awarded to Carl Michael L. Martinez of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts and Odessa May A. Maglajos of the College of Pharmacy. John Jorge A. Cacho and Marionne Jelle A. Aguis both from the VDT-ALC followed as 2^nd Runners-up.
